Diabetic Eye Care

Diabetes is common disease that causes sugar to accumulate in your blood & damage to blood vessels throughout your whole body, including your eyes. Your eyes contain blood vessels in retina that are responsible for maintaining good ocular health & vision. Chronic damage from to the retinal blood vessels can cause significant visual changes.

The best way to handle eye related problems from diabetes is through early detection. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends a diabetic eye exam promptly after your initial diagnosis. Many times Type 2 Diabetes goes undetected for years & an eye exam will help determine if damage is already present.

The ADA does recommend yearly eye exams after your diagnosis. Consistent monitoring can help reveal early diabetic changes & help prevent any further damage from occurring.
